Stacks of Sax is a Suffolk based saxophone group that has been performing around the region for the past twenty years or so. Our standard line up is now eight saxes which can feature, alongside the usual suspects, the tiny Sopranino Sax and the enormous Bass Sax. We can offer smaller combinations - see panel below.

Years ago our first gig was rewarded with a huge watermelon each, which turned out to be very welcome on what was an extremely warm summer evening. Things have moved on considerably since then and while Herbie Hancock's Watermelon Man is in the pad we no longer play for donations of fruit (no matter what the temperature!). Our repertoire has broadened to include jazz, swing, light classical and show tunes alongside original pieces which cater for the varied audiences we perform to.

'The venue was sold out – Stacks of Sax clearly have a keen following – and we were warmly welcomed ... to ... an evening of great music and different arrangements of popular songs, such as ‘California Dreaming’, ‘Eleanor Rigby’ and ‘Bennie and the Jets ... the band’s tribute to Burt Bacharach (a combination of ‘Casino Royale’ and ‘The Look of Love’) was simply joyous.'

… at last time to relax and say how much I enjoyed your wonderful arrangements, and the splendid performance of your entire group.  Tonal contrast has always worked for me as a soloist, however Sunday afternoon gave the audience a far wider dimension and I hope it broke new ground for ILOMS.

Over the past 40 years I have many times played with 'Duke' Blatchley (Nat West Jazz Band Tenor Sax) and although now retired remain the closest of friends.  However the ensemble feel of so many fine instruments as you have in your group is quite another matter.  I hope we might have reason to do it all again some day.

'I cannot thank you and your team of Saxophonists enough for such a brilliant evening – I suspect that the event will be the talk of the village and the church for some weeks to come and I am delighted to report back that all ... were inspired and bowled over by the diversity of the evening, one that will be remembered by so many for all the right reasons!'
